Think Before You Drink!

Think before you drink!

Idaho Rockers 2010 is a CD available for FREE from Esente Music Group, who are doing this all free of charge to warn people of the dangers of drunk driving. I donated a song off the new record “Send/Receive” that is included on the compilation amongst songs by Bank, Audio Moonshine, Bukkit, The First Ladies and more. I am listening to the other songs on it now and it actually sounds really good. So, if you’re interested in HEARING SOME ROCK BANDS from Idaho, go download the album for free. And one more thing…think before you drink! I love to drink, but just make sure you’ve hooked up a ride or have someone on speed dial who can pick you up…or there’s always walking home. I like that one. Except one time it rained on me so I had to call my parents at like 4 a.m. and my dad picked me up and he was jamming out to Genesis’ “Invisible Touch” album. Driving around with my dad after a few drinks is actually pretty awesome. Follow the link for that free music. Enjoy.

AUG/SEP Tour with The Devil Whale

Wasilla, AK – Matt Hopper will be embarking on a tour with Salt Lake City’s The Devil Whale for a midwest/east coast tour that kicks off August 14, 2010 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Members of The Devil Whale will be joining Hopper onstage for a well rounded set of oldies and newer material. The tour will take them from Michigan to the east coast for dates in New York City and North Carolina, back to the midwest for a support slot for Cameron McGill & What Army and a four date run in Minnesota, select dates in Illinois (including Chicago) and a possible (in talks) Daytrotter visit before steering the Whale home towards Colorado, Utah and a final gig at the wildly popular Hyde Park Street Fair in Boise, ID supporting Eileen Jewel on September 19, 2010. Hopper met Brinton Jones (Devil Whale lead singer) back in 2003 and the two have been vocal supporters of each others’ music. Whale drummer Cameron Runyan was responsible for all drum tracks on “Reverse Odyssey” and Whale guitarist Jamie Timm backed Hopper at the  2007 AMA Music Festival in Nashville, TN and a resulting 4 week residency at The Basement. Whale bassist Jake Fish has played on a few unreleased Hopper recordings over the past few years.

Hopper on the Whale: “Of all my friends bands out there in the States, The Devil Whale is not only one of my favorites musically, but also as people who I can hang out with for long periods of time in a confined space and really enjoy their company.” Hopper regrets the absence of former guitarist and model Kris “Casino” Taylor from the band, but has loose plans to record a psychadelic jam record with Taylor under the title “Drop On Hop”. Look for it within the next few years.

The tour poster was designed by Julia Green (Boise, ID):

See you out there on the road!

Alaskan Summer

Well it’s been a really busy summer for me up here in the ol’ home state of Alaska. Feels really good to be cruising all over the place to play music, sell copies of the new record and hang out with old friends. I’ve done quite a few interesting shows and have even had some band lineup changes in my short stint in AK. Currently rocking with a three piece band consisting of Derek Mangrobang on drums and Marc Bourdon on bass guitar. It’s going swimmingly. Got a few shows coming up with Old Believers and Emma Hill, both great artists from AK/ Portland area. I’m looking at a lot of touring this fall as well but it feels good to be busy let me tell ya – I’m happy to be playing a lot of shows again. I always think of stuff I should post on the blog but then end up just writing a boring, yeah I’m on tour blog…of course I’m on tour. What else is new? Hmmm…I’m working on new tracks with a producer from Kenai, AK for a Caribou Bill project. I’m writing with Evan Phillips of the Whipsaws for a project. I bought tickets to go see Steve Martin on August 3rd. I’m playing a show with Bearfoot for Music From Stanley at Red Fish Lake Lodge in Stanley in August – stoked about that. Working on a plan to get my music out to college radio stations across the US in the fall. Fun stuff. I’m boring myself. I need to go now.
